This ornament, designed by Micah Wesley, a Mvskoke and Kiowa artist, explores the symbolism of buffalo. Each buffalo in this design carries its own combination of colors and shapes, suggesting that every gift is unique and meaningful. The overlapping forms create a sense of movement and connection, while the bright reds, blues, oranges, and turquoise give the artwork an energetic and joyful quality. The buffalo become more than animals; they represent generosity, abundance, and the many different things we can offer to others.

MICAH WESLEY BIO
B.1978 - Mvskoke Creek Nation / Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma

Micah received his MFA in painting from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma, and his BFA from the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Growing up, Micah’s influences were Dorothy Dunn, Bacone, and the Kiowa Six, known as “flatstyle art”. His other influences include TC Cannon, Fritz Scholder, Francis Bacon, and his Father, Tillier Wesley, Jr. As a child, he watched sci-fi and Westerns and fell in love with the contexts of survival and reassembled lives and objects. Micah exhibits annually in solo, group exhibitions and art markets.
