Yonavea Hawkins (Caddo, Delaware Nations, and Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma) is an award-winning artist known for her beaded jewelry, accessories, pucker-toe moccasins, and other Indigenous art forms. Her work has been featured at renowned events including the Santa Fe Indian Market, Southeastern Art Market, and Eiteljorg Indian Art Market. Each piece available through the First Americans Museum online store is a one-of-a-kind creation.
Every bracelet is hand-crafted using a loom technique to create each geometric composition. Row by row, Yonavea interlocks each line of beads on a small loom to create symmetrical works that have been mathematically calculated beforehand. The finished artwork is then stitched onto a curved piece of metal with signed and dated buckskin fragments.
