In WINIKO: Reunions, FAM’s curatorial team worked to reunite objects on loan from the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian with their descendant communities and families. This project reunited over 300 community members with 73 objects—hosting 32 different tribes overall—and was made possible by the relationships sustained between FAM and the tribal nations in Oklahoma and their collaborative efforts on this project. This book, which contains a variety of essays from both FAM staff and community members, covers the knowledge gained about the collections during the Reunions, the methodologies used to research the objects, the value and importance of the Reunions to the community members, and personal experiences of descendant relatives to the loan objects.
